Sowmya Pattabhi, PhD

Vice President, Stem Cell Biology

Dr. Sowmya Pattabhi has joined the GoodCell team as Vice President, Stem Cell Biology. She is leading the effort of scaling our processes for biorepository as well as developing the genetic testing portfolio.

Sowmya has a Ph.D. in Public Health from the University of Washington with a focus on infectious diseases and double master’s in molecular genetics and biochemistry.

She has a decade of experience developing diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutics for acute and chronic diseases with a focus on parasitic and viral diseases. She has worked at the Center for Diseases Control and Prevention developing field-applicable diagnostics and vaccines for parasitic diseases in Peru, Brazil, Sudan and India. Her doctoral thesis was focused on understanding innate immunity to RNA viruses and developing small molecule RIG-I agonists as vaccine adjuvants and antivirals. She has published many peer-reviewed papers and holds several patents.

More recently, she has worked on epigenome editing of iPSCs and CRISPR/CAS9-based targeted gene editing in hematopoietic stem cells at the Seattle Children’s Research Institute. She was leading the effort on developing ex vivo autologous stem cell cures for blood disorders (Sickle cell anemia, b-Thalassemia), primary immune deficiency and other rare genetic diseases prior to joining GoodCell.
